What An Odd Angle

It's my brother's birthday tomorrow and usually I make his card well in advance of Christmas so that there's no panic, it also means that I can put it in with his Christmas goodies so I know it won't get delayed in the post. This year however, I forgot but miraculously I came up with an idea for a simple one layer card that turned out better than I imagined. I just poked a brad through the card to act as a nail, stamped the "Happy Birthday" then placed a piece of copy paper with a narrow rectangle cut out, over the words so that after I'd used distress inks then removed the mask it looked like a sign. I then just used a fine marker pen to add the "string" to hang it from the nail. I then used the same technique to hang the letters from the sign. After I'd finished I thought that the brown marker looked a bit too strong so used a white gel pen to dot onto the line which then made it look softer and a bit like twine. A pierced edge with a pattern maker tool completes the look, oh,except from a thin outline of Copic to add dimension/shadow to the edges.
Sorry for the odd angle of the photo, not sure what happened there.

I'm using this card for the following challenges:-
HIMCR78, Freestyle,
ATCACWA30, Anything goes,
CCC55, Anything goes,
FPACWA30, Anything goes,
Hotshot 14, CAS,
MIM, Anything goes.

Thanks for stopping by,
Julie.x

Gel Genius! Great idea turning the 'cord' into 'twine'. This is such a wonderful design - love all the elements - the 'nail', the sign smudging - the 'faux string' - this is the bee's knees! Now if I just had a brother instead of all these goofy sisters I have!
